Size: 19-21cm

Description: male (above) is a glossy blue-black bird with white belly and white stripe along wing. Female is similar but brown-grey instead of black. Often seen on a conspicuous perch, advertising their presence by singing.

Diet: mainly invertebrates, with some seeds and fallen wild fruit. Feeds mainly on the ground where it hops around with a rather upright stance.

Song: a clear and pretty warbling song with short churrs and whistles

Breeds: April-July.
