Brown-headed Barbet - बड़ा हरा बसंता

Size: 27cm

Description: bright green back and wings with brown head and chest, fading into green underbelly. White shoulder speckles. The large, thick bill is characteristic of Barbet species; this particular species’ bill is a bright pink-orange. A pale orange-yellow bare patch can be seen around the eye. Sexes similar. Often found in roadside trees, heard more than seen. Flight is undulating, with a few fast wingbeats followed by a short glide down and then back up.

Diet: fruit.

Song: call begins with a loud krrrrrr followed by rhythmic krooo krooo krooo, with other nearby birds often joining in.

Breeds: February-October in tree cavities.
