Brahminy Starling - पुहय्या मैना

Sturnia pagodarum

Size: 20cm

Description: small starling with distinctive black, wispy head crest. Neck, throat and chest are a pale orange-brown/cinnamon colour with grey back, wings and tail. Bill is grey with a yellow tip. Fond of but not exclusive to waterlogged areas, forages mainly on the ground. Walks rather than hops.

Diet: mainly invertebrates. May be seen feeding in small groups in flowering and fruiting trees, often in association with other species.

Song: hugely varied song repertoire, including mimicry.

Breeds: April-August.
